You have put into words what I've felt while listening to the Emma audiobook this month. I loved reading Pride & Prejudice back in school, found her prose beautiful and stimulating. But now I'm appreciating how her characters are inspiring - the way they fight against themselves to be better people, how they stand for their values in everyday, (somewhat) relatable circumstances.
Loved this, and oh how I love Austen!! I was also so excited to see you mention "The Ranger's Apprentice" --I adored those books as a kid and they're so underrated.
I'm also in the process of encountering Jane Austen for the first time as an adult and this absolutely jumps out to me as one of the most inspiring parts of her work as well!!
Thanks. You’ve given me a new perspective on why I continue to love Jane Austen.

I have had the same experience with her writing! She writes so well about what heroism looks like in ordinary life.
I could have written the beginning about myself! After disliking Austen as a teen, I just devoured all her books this year at 39.
Aw wow, it’s such a treat to discover her as an adult!

Yes they are! I should revisit them one day, for old times sake (and see what the lit teacher in me thinks of them haha).
Do you have a favorite Austen book?
Yes! I *loved* Emma and Mansfield Park. MP is more serious and thoughtful but I thought it was really beautifully done.

There’s something so great about reading her as an adult - I feel spoiled that I get to read each one for the first time ever!
Couldn't agree with your viewpoint more!
