After adopting a ten-year-old girl watching Colleen Dewhurst's performance as Marilla took on even more importance as I watched the film with my own orphan girl. Anne of Green Gables is definitely a romanticized take on adoption and its challenges, but I still love the books and the 1980s film adaptation.
